Facilitation

Facilitation's goal is to challenge the perceptions in the room and play Devil's Advocate where necessary.

Facilitating a meeting with a group of people

Ever found yourself feeling amazed when your team suddenly takes on board what a complete stranger suggests they do, after you’ve met with nothing but resistance every time you presented the exact same thing?

You’re not alone!

That’s the value of having an external facilitator run a session for you.  Differing from corporate workshops in that it’s not about learning new skills or building knowledge, facilitation is more about exploring topics and alternatives by tapping into the knowledge and wisdom that is already in the room.

While we start with the end in mind, the journey is invariably completely unplanned.  We may employ some frameworks or structures, like DeBono’s “Six Thinking Hats” to guide the process, but no teaching or presenting is involved.

Facilitation’s goal is to challenge the perceptions in the room, play Devil’s Advocate where necessary, stimulate thinking and encourage people to try non-traditional approaches to problem-solving.

Topics we’re frequently asked to facilitate include:

  • Identifying and describing company values
  • Populating a customer service charter
  • Articulating behaviours that underpin values
  • Painting and communicating a vision
  • Leadership alignment on strategy
  • Designing organisational culture

Engaging The Heartware Group means you will:

Grow the leadership capabilities of your leaders and team leaders

Not everyone is a natural leader.  Yet even the most reluctant or inexperienced leaders can step into their potential when they understand how to meet their team members’ individual needs and drives.  We show leaders how to leverage their natural strengths and develop areas they naturally shy away from – because we believe everyone can lead….they’ll just lead in different ways – and our role is to help them find that way.

Build confidence and accountability

It’s hard stepping up into a leadership or team leader role.  People who were your peers are suddenly your direct reports, and that can undermine confidence.  We teach leaders how to meet the needs and drives of their team members so that it builds confidence in their working relationships.  We use an accountability framework that allows leaders to have non-emotional, adult conversations when people fail to hold themselves to the expected standard.

Improve workplace communication

We never get taught communication skills at school, yet it’s a crucial skill we each use every day of our lives.  Understanding how to adapt communication styles is an underpinning factor in our approach to leadership development and achieving business results.  Our facilitation sessions focus heavily on improving workplace communication so that everyone is on the same page and teams can operate more cohesively.
